Film Review: Rental Family (2025)
A calming film with a plot and decent acting.
Brendan Fraser was “the hot guy” when I was in school. Anyone else remember The Mummy? George of the Jungle? To know his branding shift, and overcoming what later happened to him leading to his blacklisting, you are, I am, in awe of what he’s pulled off. “Oscar winner Brendan Fraser” became the revenge comeback of a lifetime.
Where do you go after the Oscar? Who knows. Mr. Fraser here did not disappear into taking money for the sake of it.
Rental Family is a solid drama with a little silly. His character pretends to be someone else for cash to make things operate smoothly in the family relationship. There is no climax to the movie. It is a series of events leading to each other. He becomes a “father” to a young girl, lying to her. How long can he keep it up? Can you disobey orders to make other clients happy? How should all of these clients be treated?
Enjoy the scenery on the tour. The film gravitates towards beautiful simplicity in Japanese backdrops.
I enjoyed this plenty, saving it in my Disney+ faves viewing area. Rental Family is a great watch for tired nights when you want something relaxing.
