A TV Show That Should Have Been a Movie: NBC's "The Good Place"

I didn't tune in until it was about to be yanked off Netflix

The Good Place had clips making it look like an average sitcom. Things took forever for anything getting anywhere in the plot, and wow, was this looking drab. Until! It was not.

The end of season 1 twist should have been the big twist. Who was going to sit through all of the episodes to find it? Not me. Almost. Not until I asked someone about the spoiler, and I said, “Hold on.” Netflix binge time.

Can you imagine The Good Place as the 2010’s most perfect comedic film? The best of the series, condensed into the right timing. Jokes that became stale by the end of season 4, think Tahani overdoing her name dropping, that felt fresh if sporadically. The values in the show, done right. Frog desk collector guy getting more of the spotlight.

Not a critic’s darling. A massive hit movie. Talk about a missed opportunity.
